Christmas Music and Wine for a Dinner Party.
Tis the season… to drink some wine! Well, I guess I would say that, wouldn’t I? But in fairness some of the best parties of the year are during the holiday season. Everyone is ready for a good night of good food, Christmas music and wine.
As I was thinking about this festive blog post, I wanted it to be a little bit different from our usual, formal, wine-heavy posts. My last few posts All You Ever Wanted to know about Mulled Wine and Christmas Food and Wine, were fairly traditional so this week I want to lighten it all up and look at the link between Christmas music and wine.
I am also conscious that you have been hearing those Holiday Jingles for nigh on a month now so what I intend to do is this. I’ll list some Christmas music and wines for a dinner party, and then I’m going to give you a personal playlist that I hope will differ a little from the ordinary.
I will outline that list by way of YouTube videos so you can watch and listen to it and take a break from watching TV.
Hosting a Christmas Dinner Party
If you’re hosting a dinner party over the Christmas period, a little planning for wine pairings would be a good start (I’ve already covered that in my previous blog post as mentioned above). When it comes to suitable music to choose from though, I also believe a little preparation will help.
Pairing wine with music could be a unique spin on your holiday party. One might argue that the right song can drastically change how each wine tastes in your glass but – I’m not going to go there in this blog.
For instance, you could pass your phone around (with Spotify open) and ask everybody to pick Christmas music that matched their mood.
This is echoing the sentiment of my last blog post where each wine could be paired with a song based on the mood and personality that the song and the wine convey. High tone vs. low tone, brass instruments vs. the piano… these sort of elements in any given song contribute to the way the song feels… or… the texture of the wine…etc.
Here are my suggested pairings (with spotify links)
A.R. Lenoble Champagne – I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas – delightful and festive.
Trimbach Riesling – Run Run Rudolph – bright, friendly and classic.
Vega Sicilia Oremus Mandolas Dry Furmint – Santa Baby – cosy and sultry.
Benjamin Leroux Pinot Noir – Baby it’s Cold Outside – traditional and warming.
Lamole di Lamole Chianti Classico – Cantique de Noel – full bodied and charming.
Miguel Merino Rioja Vinas Jovenas – Señor Santa – fun, easy and Spanish.
What do you think? I know everybody’s taste in music is different, but I thought it’d be a bit of fun to do this. Anyway – what I can recommend is any of the above wines with your dinner party. If you’d like to discuss any of them (or buy them) we have them in stock, at the moment.
Have a go at this yourself – hop onto Spotify, pick out some Christmas music and taste wine. See if they match the music or your mood.

2019 – What a Year
I’ll save my look-back on 2019 until the end of this month but suffice to say it was a whirlwind for us here in Green Acres. Thank you for your engagement and I really, really hope you had a wonderful year and can now enjoy some Christmas music and wine as we wind up over the next few weeks.
Oh yeah, I’m going to throw in one of my favourite videos (and tracks) – not a Christmas one but perfectly matches my mood when, after a long day, I settle down with a glass of Cognac.
Ed Sheeran (with Andrea Bocelli) – Perfect Symphony – https://youtu.be/eiDiKwbGfIY
If we can help you in any way with your Christmas wine choice, please pop in or give us a call. We have a wonderful Christmas Special Wine Sale on and Donal, Patrick, Jason or myself would be delighted to assist you.
So, I’ll finish by hoping that your Christmas music will be filled with enough wine to get you through the Festive Season. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Talk Soon – James.
