This series of work – Ar Imeall an Tost/From the Edge of Silence -is a response to long days of listening to contemporary art music by composers, Benjamin Dwyer, Dave Fennessey, Gráinne Mulvey and Ryan Molloy. Their works are non-verbal responses to place, literature, and soundscapes over which they have puzzled and wondered.
Their music conjured up spaces of sea and strand, of wind gusting on water, of being in water, of the freshness of cold, sharp air on skin, of striding out with high skies above - longed for places - upending me and kindling that yearn to be off and out, which of course has been somewhat halted by the various lockdowns.
Throughout this time I have felt islanded, physically apart from family and friends while also being aware of a self-sufficiency which enabled me to work steadily, without distraction, during these times of quietness.
